5:30 pm – 8:00 pm
at Niko’s Landing in Comstock.
Named after former State Representative Mary Brown, the late Congressman Paul Todd, and the late Congressman Howard Wolpe, this is a celebration to honor contributions made in the past and to connect with other Democrats to plan our future work.
The biggest fundraiser of the election cycle for the KCDP, the event features keynote speakers from the national, state, and local Democratic arenas (to be announced shortly), award presentations, live music, heavy appetizers, and a cash bar.
We are thrilled to announce that our keynote speaker was Lavora Barnes, chair of the Michigan Democratic Party!
Live music was provided by a much-loved local group, the Hackneyed Quips.

It is with great pleasure that the Kalamazoo County Democratic Party announces this year’s awardees for our biennial Brown/Todd/Wolpe Award Ceremony & Fundraiser!
It’s our biggest event of the election cycle and a great opportunity to mix and mingle with other Democrats and be a part of our ambitious plans to win big in 2020.
This year, the Brown/Todd/Wolpe Planning Committee has created two additional awards in honor of two dedicated Kalamazoo Democrats: Hon. Ed LaForge and Jo Ann Betz. The Ed LaForge Dedication Award recognizes people who have shown extraordinary dedication to the work of the Kalamazoo County Democratic Party and local Democratic politics. The Jo Ann Betz Volunteer Award recognizes exemplary Kalamazoo County Democratic Party volunteers. And, as in previous years, the Brown/Todd/Wolpe Award goes to a stalwart Democrat who has served and supported the local Democratic party throughout their life.
Without further ado, the 2019 honorees are:
Hon. Larry Provancher
Ed LaForge Dedication Award
Hon. Bobby Hopewell
Jo Ann Betz Volunteer Award
We also will be recognizing the following people in memoriam:
- Hon. Ed LaForge
- Jo Ann Betz
- Susan Holman
- Shequita Quanna Lewis
