On Wednesday night, January 6, 2021—after a mob of Trump supporters had stormed the US Capitol building—Tim Walberg cast his vote to overturn the election results. Joined by only two of his fellow Representatives from Michigan, Walberg chose to align himself with the most extreme faction of the Republican Party – including Paul Gosar, Devin Nunes, Lauren Boebert, and Marjorie Taylor Greene. Not only has Walberg perpetuated the Big Lie with his Congressional vote, he has also refused to acknowledge that Biden won in a free and fair election.
All the Wrong Endorsements
Tim Walberg’s abysmal voting record and far-right policy positions have caught the attention and earned the endorsements of several extremist organizations. The NRA Political Victory Fund has given him a solid “A” Rating. In 2022 alone, Walberg voted against the Assault Weapons Ban, the Active Shooter Alert Act, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, and the Protecting Our Kids Act!
On the issue of women’s health and reproductive rights, Walberg voted against the Women’s Health Protection Acts of 2021 and 2022 and against the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act of 2022. Indeed, Walberg’s campaign website prominently displays his endorsement from Right to Life of Michigan, an extremist group that even OPPOSES ABORTION IN CASES OF RAPE AND INCEST.
He Gets No Respect From Those We Respect
With his consistent voting record against hardworking Americans, Tim Walberg earned a 0% rating in 2021 from the AFL-CIO. He even voted against the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the Older Workers Discrimination Act, and the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act.
The League of Conservation Voters gives Walberg a Lifetime Score of just 4% – which would be laughable were it not so dire in terms of potential consequences. Indeed, with his votes against clean air, clean water, clean energy and against protecting our public lands and forests, Walberg has demonstrated his wanton disregard for our health and safety.
Meanwhile, our good friends at the Human Rights Campaign Fund have given Representative Walberg a 0% score for the three last sessions of Congress. Most recently, he voted against every piece of human rights legislation monitored by HRC during the 116th session including the Equality Act, John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act, American Dream and Promise Act, and Every Child Deserves a Family Act.
