About Bart Goldberg

TRUSTWORTHY, WILL ADDRESS HARDWORKING PEOPLE’S PROBLEMS

Bart Goldberg was born in Louisville, Kentucky, the oldest of four children in a nurturing family, and then moved to Chicago at age 17 to attend college. He received a B.A. in Economics from the University of Chicago in 1981, and then earned a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 1985.

During college he played in a punk band. Their claim to fame was once opening for The Ramones. Only one of the bands that played that night made it into the Rock Hall of Fame, however.

After law school, Bart decided to start his own law practice rather than head to a big firm or corporate office. Bart wanted to help real people with their problems – not be just a legal paper pusher for big corporations.

His clients were real, hardworking people who faced a lot of the same problems we have today. They needed an affordable advisor who deserved their trust.

Bart and his wife Missy now call New Buffalo, Michigan home. Bart is active in the community and serves as the president of his homeowners association. He loves being outdoors on a bike or at the lake. Bart enjoys learning about new things, and is an avid reader of non-fiction and science books. This keeps him open minded to new ideas and ways to solve the problems we all face.

Bart’s experience and problem-solving skills are exactly what congress needs. He’ll advocate for southern Michigan and bring home money to make the American Dream a reality.

Bart Goldberg’s Priorities

1.      JOBS: TOP PRIORITY

Bart believes that full time work requires the dignity of a living wage. The minimum wage must increase to enable people to support their families. And everyone should have the right to join a union.

We must continue the Child Tax Credit to aid working families with children. We also must enact policy to ensure that major corporations do not use foreign tax haven structures to avoid paying taxes. It is time companies pay their fair share of taxes.

2.      INFLATION AND GAS PRICES

DC must do more to get inflation and gas prices under control. We need an all-in approach to any energy issues, and must prioritize renewables over fossil fuels. Whenever Americans suffer at the pump, we must be willing to discuss solutions that might not be popular with the political extremes.

3.       PROTECT OUR RIGHTS

We should strengthen rights, not take them away. The Dobbs decision injects politics into the Supreme Court. It takes important rights away from women, and is an affront to them and their rights. It will only lead to more divide in this Country.

Bart will work to protect against discrimination in housing, labor, and education, as well as other areas where government extends. This includes a woman right to privacy to make her own medical decisions.

4.      PROTECT CLEAN WATER AND OUR SHORELINE

We must protect both our drinking water and our lakes — Michigan’s most valuable asset. To do this, we need a congressperson who will work collaboratively with Democrats and Republicans, because people expect politicians to get along.

5.      PRIORITIZE FARMERS AND MICHIGAN AGRICULTURE

Bart will ask to serve on the Agricultural Committee so he can help draft the 2023 Farm Bill. He’ll also work on long-overdue modifications to the H-2A visa program to help our farmers obtain labor.

6.      STAND UP FOR SENIORS AND VETERANS

We are forever indebted to veterans for the risks they took in serving us all. We must do a better job in serving them with better medical and mental health care, and the protection of benefits.

Further, we must protect and strengthen Social Security and Medicaid. These important programs are vital, and Bart will fight any attempt to cut funding and benefits.

7.      EDUCATING THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS

Teachers, support personnel, and administrators are an important part of our children’s education, and we must support them in and out of the school building. Strong neighborhood schools are the backbone of our communities, which is why Bart will encourage investments in K-12, as well as post-secondary education like college or trade school.

8.      PROMOTING RESPONSIBLE GUN OWNERSHIP

Guns can be dangerous in the wrong hands. We should be working to promote responsible gun ownership, not making excuses for inaction. The vast majority of people want universal background checks. It is a solution we should implement immediately.
