Cooper Township Trustee

2020 KCDP endorsee – Scott Markham

Scott writes, “I am 43 years old, happily married with two boys and a lifelong resident of the Kalamazoo area. I have lived the majority of that time in Cooper township. I am currently working as a Master Electrician for the City of Kalamazoo, where I also serve as Vice President of the Kalamazoo Municipal Employees Association. I enjoy coaching youth sports, mostly baseball, and fishing.

“For too long the Cooper Township Board has lacked opposing voices and perspectives in it’s decision making process.  After years of uncontested elections run by a single political party the Township has become complacent.

“After watching the proposed imposition of the sewer assessment a few years ago, it became clear that the board was constantly voting 7-0 on issues that significantly impact the hard working citizens of Cooper Township often with little debate.  Whether dealing with PFAS or cleaning up contamination, the people of Cooper Township deserve better.

We need a new perspective.

“I’m not interested in partisan politics, and I strongly believe that all citizens in Cooper Township deserve to be heard and represented within their township’s decision-making process. I believe in transparency and accountability for tax payer dollars, and with my years on construction sites I have the experience to ask the right questions in our township discussions, questions that have been missing from current leadership.

It is time for a new direction, one I would like to help lead Cooper Township in.  I would be honored to earn your vote, and serve the citizens of Cooper Township.

The Kalamazoo County Democratic Party encourages you to vote for Scott Markham for Cooper Township Trustee.
