KCDP endorsee – Francine Bruder Melgar

Dr. Francine Bruder Melgar, age 59, has been a resident of the 11th district for 25 years. She is a pediatrician and internist at Intercare Community Health Network in Pullman, MI.  She graduated from Kalamazoo College and the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.

“I was raised on the principles of service, honesty, generosity and faith, by parents who encouraged hard work, open mindedness, and asking questions,” says Dr. Bruder Melgar. “I am running for office to overcome today’s politically polarized agenda by working to balance the needs of our entire community in areas of health, the environment, education, justice, and the economy.  As a commissioner, I will encourage citizen engagement in discussions of unmet needs in our community, and will support inclusive policies and a balanced budget.”

Fran’s history of public service includes former board member of  Residential Opportunities, Inc., medical missionary and volunteer in the Ivory Coast, Ghana, the Dominican Republic, and in Kalamazoo.  She is an active member of the League of Women Voters, Just Faith, and MOMS Demand Action.  She is cofounder of The Science Club of Kalamazoo/Portage, and is an active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Student Parish.  Fran is the mother of four grown children.
