Another membership FAQ
When people first get involved with the local Dems, the difference between being a “KCDP Member” and being a “KCDP County Committee Member” can be mystifying.
As expected, anyone can become a member of the Kalamazoo County Democratic Party. (Join here!) If you’re interested in getting even more involved in the work of the KCDP, you can become a member of the County Committee.
County Committee members are the voting members who make operational decisions, adopt policies, approve resolutions, etc. We’re pleased to have more than 80 County Committee members, and that number is growing.
To become part of the County Committee, you must be nominated at a monthly Third Thursday meeting (officially, these are “County Committee Meetings”) and be voted in at the next meeting.
KCDP suggests an annual donation of $100 and/or 10 hours of volunteer from County Committee members.
And of course you’re welcome to attend these monthly meetings without joining the local Party or Committee. Come and check us out on July 18—details below.
You can help us build resources for 2020 whether you join or not! The best way to donate to KCDP is online through ActBlue, If you prefer, you can mail a check to KCDP, PO Box 2466, Kalamazoo, MI 49003-2466. Questions? Email Development Director Margy Belchak, email@example.com.

Why I’m a Democrat – Elliana Kisiel
“I’m a Democrat because I believe in social justice and political reform. I believe our country has lost sight as to what being a human being is all about. We must care for one another and be more empathetic and accepting when it comes to those who are different from ourselves. Being a Democrat means standing up for those who do not have a voice. By being a member of the Democratic Party I feel that I am contributing to society in a positive manner by making the world a more accepting and truly beautiful place, where we can all coexist as one species with the goal of living a happy and successful life.”
