The KCDP endorses the August 7 Senior Millage

We are excited to announce the Say Yes to Seniors movement has been endorsed by the Kalamazoo County Democratic Party.  Say Yes to Seniors should not be a partisan issue. 73 other counties in the State of Michigan understand the importance of taking care of our seniors; leaving Kalamazoo County as one of only 10 counties who are failing to effectively care for our seniors. We must step up to the plate and make sure our seniors receive the care that they deserve.  We strongly encourage every citizen in Kalamazoo to VOTE YES on August 7th for the following reasons:

Senior Millage August 7, 2018

  • Will help keep Seniors in their homes

  • Will supplement Senior incomes that are too stretched

  • Area organizations (AAA, Senior Services, Disability Network, etc.) have a plan to use resources to diminish current waitlists

  • Careful checks and balances ensure the funds will be targeted based on need, effectiveness, and efficiency

  • Organizations must compete for funds via proposal

  • County Commission provides oversight and approval of millage funds

  • Will cost the average homeowner less than $2.96 per month

More than 50,000 seniors (age 60+) live in Kalamazoo County. Thousands lack the physical, emotional, mental, or financial means to care for themselves fully. A Senior Millage will provide essential, affordable services for these vulnerable citizens, and their caregivers, and help them age in place with the safety, dignity, and quality of life they deserve.
