VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: Data Entry and Retrieval
Data Drives Democratic Campaigns
Among our most important volunteers is a team of highly skilled and dedicated data entry and retrieval workers which has been with us since the 2006 campaign. Our organization and campaigns could not function without the hours and hours these volunteers put in to work with complex data tasks.
It may not sound exciting, but when you’re running a ‘lit drop’ for a local candidate, it’s incredibly useful to know how people in a certain neighborhood voted – if they voted at all. Why leave an expensive, four-color brochure at an address where people are unlikely to vote? Instead, you can save it for the second visit to a strong Democrat’s home, where you’ll find someone who’s truly interested in your information – and will likely share it.
Our data volunteers serve in the office on a regular basis, entering the steady stream of new data which comes into the office. The info is gathered from door to door canvassing, from phone banking, from volunteers, and from new members. More than just names, information entered includes residents’ precinct, county commission district, and state legislative district, and, of course, party affiliation or independent voter status.
Other computer-savvy volunteers are those responsible for our membership and mailing lists, printing labels for mailed newsletters and sending it out by email; for other electronic communications to members and friends, and for maintaining membership and contribution information. This group includes Suzanne Cook, Martha Warpehoski, Cathleen Garland-Rike and John Kraska.
If you have computer skills and would like to join our essential data team, we need your help starting now, and throughout the campaign season.
